Thro’ the Wood Laddie
18th century song by Michael Arne, published 1765, sung by Miss Elizabeth Wright at Vauxhall Gardens. This is the flute version of the notebook music on the harpsicord desk of the Misses Paine. Their portrait by Joshua Reynolds is in the Lady Lever Gallery & the copy in Ormesby Hall. Performed on a 1789 mellow-toned boxwood flute, made by Proser. The second piece on the ballad sheet is ‘As Early I Walked’.
